Denver police issued a shelter-in-place order Saturday night after a person barricaded themselves inside an apartment in the city’s southern area. The alert, which went out as a wireless emergency message, was accidentally sent to a wider audience than planned, according to the Denver Public Safety Department.
Authorities asked anyone near 2495 South Vine Street in the University neighborhood to remain indoors and stay away from doors and windows until further notice. Officials later clarified that the shelter-in-place order only covers a two-block radius around that address, and anyone outside that zone does not need to take action.
The University of Denver also addressed the situation, saying there was no active threat to the DU campus.
By around 8:30 p.m., multiple police vehicles with flashing lights were seen surrounding an apartment building near the intersection of Vine Street and East Harvard Avenue as officers continued to manage the situation.
